Ending the Long Distance: Valentine’s Day Tips for Moving In

Keep your romance alive during moving day!

You may not think of home moving as being romantic, but they can be. Especially when you and your sweetheart have been separated too long by time and distance. Spending your first Valentine’s Day together in your new home can be like flowers, candy, dinner and a movie all rolled into one. It’s all a matter of perspective.

Here are a few tips that may help you put a little extra spark in the process of moving in.

  1. Daring Dining Discovery.

Home moving with your loved oneIt’s the first night in your new home, and the cupboard and fridge have yet to be stocked. In the distance, you hear the siren call of a restaurant. But which restaurant? You’re in the mood for rigatoni and red wine, but your partner is in the mood for tapas and craft beer. Flip a coin. Winner gets to choose—but owes the loser a foot massage. Once you’ve settled that, go to your phone and search your neighborhood for the winner’s choice. Call ahead and enjoy a dining adventure.
  2. Light My Fire (Or, You Really Move Me).

The moving and storage company has taken away most of the packing materials. As you're unpacking to settle in, you still have a fair amount of paper goods to recycle. If there’s a fireplace in your new home, you might put some of those papers to a creative romantic use. Pick up a small bundle of split wood at the corner convenience store and use some of the leftover packing paper to build a fire. Crumple it up a sheet at a time to allow enough air for good combustion. With soft music in the background and a refreshment in your glass, relax and enjoy the glow of the moment together.
  3. A Super Supermarket Date.

At first blush, the idea of a trip to the supermarket can seem pretty mundane. But it doesn’t have to be. Why not use your Valentine’s Day evening as a chance to explore your local market and stock up on a few things to tide you over until you can get the kitchen totally squared away. Maybe pick up the makings for your own home-prepared Valentine’s Dinner, complete with fresh strawberries and shortcake for dessert. Don’t forget the whipped cream;-)

Wherever you go, local or long distance, moving is always a new experience. We’ll provide the relocation service to get you and your sweetheart safely into your new home. It’s up to you to use your imagination and make settling in a romantic part of your home moving adventure.
