Contributing To The Greater Good - 16 Years Of Partnership With Susan G. Komen Maryland Thursday May 09, 2019

Small gestures can have a big impact on the community, and at Advance Relocation Systems we are passionate about giving back in whatever ways we can. Our partnership with various charitable organizations has been ongoing for 15+ years and we will continue to support these organizations because they put so much love into what they do. We’ve had the honor of working with organizations like the Baltimore Animal Rescue And Care Shelter, Move for Hunger and we hold a long standing relationship with the recently renamed ‘Susan G. Komen More Than Pink Walk’ organizations.

Our partnership with the Susan G. Komen More Than Pink Walk in Maryland started 16 years ago, in 2003.  Wow...the time has gone by so fast! They are the world’s largest breast cancer organization, funding more breast cancer research than any other nonprofit while also providing real time help to those facing the disease. Komen has funded more than $920 million in research and has provided almost $2 billion in funding to screening, education, treatment and psychosocial support groups since its founding in 1982. In Maryland, there are four events throughout the year, the Baltimore Race, Ocean City Race, Washington DC race and the promise ride. These events give survivors, patients and loved ones a chance to run, walk and stand together in support and unity for those who are currently fighting breast cancer and in memory of those who are no longer with us.

The start of our relationship with Komen Maryland began when they reached out to us with a need for warehousing and moving services.  These services are needed to prepare for the race days, as well as for storage throughout the year. However, once we started working with them and experienced first hand how passionate everyone at their organization is about what they do, it was really hard not to want to do more. What started out as just one race, quickly turned into four per year. Over the years, the work that Advance Relocation Systems does for the Komen Maryland More Than Pink Walk has been acknowledged and recognized at numerous events. One notable culmination of all this occurred in 2015 when our CEO, Dalton Conklin, was awarded ‘The Promise of One Award’ which is given in recognition of an individual’s exceptional service to Susan G. Komen Maryland

“Advanced Relocation has been a Race sponsor for more than a decade, providing all of our moving and storage needs. Dalton and his team cheerfully find solutions to our many logistical challenges. They provide delivery of supplies and events not only to the Races in Hunt Valley and Ocean City, but for other events throughout the year: educational symposia, Pink Tie Guy fundraisers and even this Recognition event. Whether it’s moving a file cabinet in our office or 10 pallets of Race t-shirts, Dalton makes sure his team is on the job. The Advanced Relocation Team are business partners who have become an extension of our staff—an indispensable part of our team. Dalton thank you for your ongoing commitment to Komen Maryland!” - Komen Promise of One Awards Quote

In 2007 we also received ‘The Pink Ribbon Award’ which honors corporate or community supporters of the affiliate who display extraordinary commitment to the organization’s mission, either through significant contributions during the current year or consistent support for a number of years.

“Advance Relocation Systems is being recognized for their amazing support of our race throughout the year.  ARS stores all shipments from Komen National, the National Race Series Sponsors as well as local sponsors. This takes a tremendous amount of warehouse space as well as the ability to move items around to provide access to our products and storage bins.

ARS plays a vital role in race registration providing space to pack the shirts and other materials for our teams, making deliveries to the larger teams, appointing staff to support our volunteers, providing packing materials and creating a safe work area within the warehouse. ARS also delivers shirts to the mall registration sites, delivers the stored items to the race site on set-up day and packs the leftover materials at the end of the Race. If that’s not enough, ARS has promoted their relationship with us in trade journals and several of their trucks bear signs that read ‘Official Mover of the Race for the Cure’.” - Pink Ribbon Awards Quote

Our commitment to providing services to the Susan G. Komen More Than Pink Walk Events is not simply sharing a great relationship with the organization, but it's actually a very personal decision. Many of our team members have been themselves or someone they love impacted by cancer.  In fact, one of our team members in the office is a breast cancer survivor and it means a lot to everyone in our company than we are actively working with an organization that is dedicated to finding a cure. It means more to us than the opportunities to market ourselves. In fact, we choose not to set up booths at race village and instead we prefer to spend the race days focused on helping the people and supporting the cause.

We encourage our clients and other companies to find ways they can contribute to charities within their communities. Frankly speaking, good causes depend on funding to do the phenomenal work that they do and our involvement helps them to put more of their resources towards their cause. In our case with the Susan G. Komen Maryland organization, they don’t have to worry about paying a moving and storage company to do the work for them, and can instead put that money towards more cancer research efforts. We’d like to thank the Susan G. Komen Organization for the amazing work that they do and we’re honored to play a role in their ongoing mission.
