Helpful Moving Tips | How To Stay Organized While Packing Tuesday Apr 22, 2014

A moving company can help transfer the contents of your current home to your future home, but you will still need to make packing preparations if you want your move to go smoothly.  At Advance Relocation Systems, we want the adjustment to your new space to be as painless as possible.  That’s why we’ve compiled this helpful list to make your big move an easy one.

  • It is a good idea to start organizing several weeks before the actual move.  Don’t wait until a few days before your move takes place.  Create a moving countdown list and cross off items week by week, check out our comprehensive moving checklist.

  • Make sure to let your mover know about large and hard-to-move items such as pianos and desks.
  • Tell your mover in advance about access restrictions like elevators or narrow driveways at your old and new locations.  Good communication and planning with your moving company will ensure that moving day goes smoothly.

  • To avoid unnecessary delays, have all your boxes packed before the moving crew arrives.

  • Although labeling each box is tedious, it will pay off when your belongings are unloaded at your new location. To make things easier, organize boxes according to room or content type. Use color coded labels to recognize the contents at a glance.

    Moving Tips
  • Use heavy duty plastic storage boxes for packing seasonal items or articles that you plan to store. They stack more easily if they are all the same size and brand.  Label the sides of each box for convenient identification. Those labels will be your best friend throughout the moving process.

  • Empty the gas from your lawnmower.

  • Defrost and clean your refrigerator 24 hours before your move.

  • When disassembling furniture, seal the screws, washers and nuts in a plastic bag, and secure the bag to the bottom of the furniture.
