No Need To Be On Your Toes Cause ARS Has Your Back Tuesday Aug 19, 2025

No Need To Be On Your Toes Cause ARS Has Your BackEven the most well-organized moves can come with surprises. While you may have the boxes, the movers and the dates all lined up, there are always a few last-minute details that tend to catch people off guard. At Advance Relocation Systems, we’ve seen it all — and we are here to help you plan for the expected and the unexpected, so that your move goes as smoothly as possible.

1. The Forgotten Box of Must-Haves

You’ll be surprised to know how many people forget the items they are meant to pack last. Things like chargers, daily medications, important documents, essential toiletries and tools tend to get left behind in a rush. Designate one box — clearly labeled for last-minute essentials. Keep it open and accessible until the very end so you can drop things in as needed.

2. Small Hardware, Big Headaches

Taking apart furniture? Be sure to collect all screws, bolts and small pieces into sealable bags and label them clearly — “Dining Table screws” is better than “Nuts & Bolts.” Your mover will provide a “hardware box” to ensure these items are safe and accounted for.

3. Cleaning Isn’t Over Yet

Even after everything is packed and out, there’s one more thing left — cleaning. Many people forget that a final walk-through (especially for renters) requires the place to be spotless. Keep basic cleaning supplies handy and plan time for a cleanup. Or hire cleaning services in advance if time will be tight.

4. The Refrigerator Trap

Emptying the fridge should be done at least 24 hours before moving day. Clean it out, unplug it and leave the door open to prevent mold or unpleasant odors. It’s a small step with big consequences if overlooked.

5. Grocery Run Prep

You may arrive at your new home with a sense of relief — until you realize there is no food, drinks or even coffee. Set aside time for a first grocery run, or prepare a “starter kit” of non-perishables and essentials to bring with you.

6. Remember Your Furry Friend

If you have pets, make sure their microchip info and ID tags are updated with your new address. Also, pack a pet essentials bag with food, toys and comfort items to make their transition smoother.

7. Cancel and Transfer Your Utilities in Advance

In the whirlwind of packing and coordinating logistics, it’s easy to forget about utility services. Make sure you schedule the disconnection or transfer of electricity, water, internet, gas and trash services from your old place. Set up activation at your new address before you arrive. No one wants to unpack in the dark or without Wi-Fi.

8. Say Hello to New Neighbors

Amid the chaos of boxes and unpacking, don’t forget to introduce yourself to your new neighbors. A simple hello can go a long way in creating a welcoming atmosphere and building a sense of community early on.
